Program Description:

National Student Exchange (NSE) is a premier network of 170+ colleges and universities offering collegiate study away throughout the United States, Canada, and U.S. Territories of Puerto Rico, Guam, and the Virgin Islands. NSE campuses range in enrollment from 600 to more than 50,000 students. Review your options at NSE.org.

With over 170 colleges and universities from which to choose, students should be able to find a campus with just the right combination of courses, facilities, and environment to meet their personal and academic needs and interests.

While on an NSE exchange, students:

  • Continue to make progress toward their degree programs

  • Access new courses, learn from different professors, explore new areas of study

  • Break out of their comfort zone, make new friends, become more independent, experience personal growth

  • Live in a different area, broaden their perspectives, and experience life from a different point of view

  • Investigate graduate schools or seek future employment

Important Information About Costs:

  • Budgets for participation in NSE are created on a student-by-student basis based on the program of interest/placement.
    • Budgets will reflect expenses "Billed to St. Olaf
  • There are two tuition payment plans utilized by NSE: Host Payment Plan and Home Payment Plan. St. Olaf College utilizes the Home Payment Plan only.

NSE Placement Process
Most placements are made at the annual NSE conference, which takes place in early March. Annually, 97% of the applicants are placed at one of their campus choices.  Placement probabilities are governed by the number of openings at an institution and the number of students seeking that location.
