Explore the art and history of the Italian Renaissance in Florence, where the rich interaction between medieval Europe and classical antiquity truly comes alive. The ACM Florence: Arts, Humanities, and Culture program takes full advantage of the city’s rich artistic heritage, with opportunities to view many influential masterpieces of Western civilization.

Florence photoMany classes are held at Florence’s prestigious museums and monuments, where you’ll collaborate with renowned faculty, local scholars, and art conservation specialists. You’ll also immerse yourself in daily life by living in an Italian home and studying Italian language.

Visits to Rome, Venice, and other cities are built into your schedule. There will also be plenty of opportunities to experience Florence’s rich traditions and culture outside of class. Enjoy program excursions to the opera, theatre, concerts, football (soccer) games, and olive oil tastings. You’ll also receive discounts to musical performances and a transportation pass giving you unlimited access to the bus and tram network.

  • Italian Language: Instruction is offered at all levels and emphasizes spoken colloquial Italian.
  • Elective Courses: Choose from among courses in medieval and Renaissance art, history, and literature. You can also get training on art restoration from local artisans or take a figure drawing course held at the most historic Florentine atelier still in active use. Except for the required Italian language class, all courses are taught in English.
  • Internships at the Uffizi Gallery, the Medici Chapels, and other museums are available to qualified students who have strong Italian language skills.
